The district administration has taken a strict stance to curb the continuous road accidents occurring in Jamshedpur city and the surrounding areas. A crucial meeting of the District Road Safety Committee and Traffic Management was held at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajiv Ranjan. This high-level meeting drafted a detailed framework and strategy focusing on the safety of school children, prompt compensation in hit-and-run cases, and effective control over traffic rule violations.
DC Expresses Deep Concern Over 31 Accidents in April
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner expressed serious concern over the statistics revealing 31 road accidents across the district in the month of April. In these tragic incidents, 24 people lost their lives, while 14 others sustained injuries. The review brought forth a shocking revelation that approximately 90 percent of these accidents occurred purely due to the ignorance of traffic rules. Driving without a helmet or seat belt, overspeeding, and drunk driving were identified as the primary causes of these fatalities.
Intensive Checking of School Vehicles After Summer Vacation
Giving supreme priority to the safety of school children, DC Rajiv Ranjan issued strict directives to the Transport Department. He mandated that old and dilapidated vehicles, specifically vans and autos, must be completely phased out from school transport services. As soon as the summer vacations conclude, a massive and intensive checking campaign dedicated to school vehicles will be launched across the district. Vehicles lacking proper fitness certificates, valid permits, or those found overloading children will not be permitted to operate on the roads under any circumstances.
Black Spots to be Fixed, Strict Action Against Traffic Violators
The Deputy Commissioner ordered the immediate identification of accident-prone zones (black spots) on National and State Highways, directing officials to implement necessary safety measures without delay. The concerned departments have been tasked with installing rumble strips, radium indicators, crash barriers, and sliding barriers, alongside repairing faulty street lights on the roads. Furthermore, a joint task force comprising the Transport Department and Traffic Police will launch a rigorous crackdown on drunk driving, riding without helmets, and triple riding. Special awareness drives will also be conducted in schools and colleges to educate the youth about traffic discipline.

He emphasized the quick disposal of all pending cases to ensure that the affected grieving families receive timely financial assistance.
This significant meeting was attended by key officials, including the Rural SP, Dhalbhum SDM, ASP, DTO, Dhalbhum SDO, Ghatshila SDPO, and DSP Headquarters, along with representatives from various transport associations and school vehicle operators.
