Jamshedpur. Panic gripped the Sonari area on Wednesday afternoon after six armed and masked criminals stormed into Vardhman Jewellers, Dispensary Road, and looted jewellery worth lakhs in broad daylight.
According to reports, the assailants entered the shop posing as customers and within just two minutes, launched the robbery. During the heist, they attacked the shop owner, Pankaj Jain, with the butt of a pistol, leaving him seriously injured.
The criminals then snatched a bag filled with gold ornaments, fired several rounds to terrorize the public, and fled the spot on two motorcycles.
The injured shop owner was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Police Action
City SP Kumar Shivashish, who reached the spot, said that the criminals had conducted a thorough recce of the shop prior to the incident. He confirmed that around six gold chains were looted.
Soon after the robbery, police launched a massive manhunt, sealed the area, and began scanning CCTV footage, which has captured clear visuals of the assailants. Officials are confident of identifying and nabbing the culprits soon.
Public Fear and Anger
Local residents expressed outrage, stating that such broad daylight robberies have created an atmosphere of fear in the locality. Police have urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious movement or persons.
MLA Saryu Roy’s Concern
Reacting strongly, Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy voiced deep concern over the repeated incidents in Sonari. In a statement, he said:
“This is the third such incident in Sonari. It raises serious questions on the credibility of the police. Officers must tighten control over constables, officials, and informers. Since the entire crime is captured on CCTV, the police should arrest the culprits tonight itself and expose the nexus. The question is – why are such incidents repeatedly happening in Sonari?”
Roy’s remarks have further increased pressure on the administration, which is already facing criticism from traders and residents over rising crime.
