Tata Steel inaugurates Mobile exhibition “PPE ON WHEELS”
–A Safety Awareness drive on Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)-
Jamshedpur, October 17, 2019: Tata Steel on Wednesday inaugurated a safety awareness drive- “PPE ON WHEELS” in association with M/S Karam Industries. This awareness drive will be through a mobile exhibition that will focus on the right selection, correct usage, upkeep, inspection and putting on/ taking off Protective gear.
The “PPE ON WHEELS” was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr Padmapal, Chief of Blast Furnaces, Guest of Honour, Mr. Vijay Kumar Nirala, Chief Safety and Mr Vineet Ranjan Tripathi, Chief I Blast Furnace, today at the Vendors Park of I Blast furnace at Tata Steel Works. Also present at the event were Mr Sanjay Mishra, Head Workplace Safety and Mr G S R Murthy, Head Operation –I Blast Furnace, besides TSL and Contractor employees.. Representatives from M/S Karam Industries included Mr Prasenjit Ghosh, Territory Manager, Mr Rishi Suman Jha, and Sajal Mazumdar, Lead Demonstration Specialist.
The mobile exhibition will display varieties of PPE and various fall protection arrangements at different departments between October 16–November 15, 2019.
Earlier, Mr Dip N Koner, Head Competency and Capability Development, welcomed the gathering and set the context of this safety initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Padmapal said “This initiative, “PPE on Wheels” is an important milestone in our Safety Excellence Journey, which can improve the way we work.” He encouraged the employees to seek solutions to their concerns and problems, so that if needed appropriate PPEs and solutions can be developed and safer options explored.
Mr Nirala, thanked the Karam Team for partnering in this safety drive. He also exhorted the workforce to derive maximum benefits from this exhibition. He stressed on the importance of PPE and elaborated how the right selection and correct use of PPE could minimize the risk of any harm. He urged all employees to actively participate in this safety initiative, spreading safety awareness and knowledge of PPE amongst fellow workmen. He informed that this initiative after completion in Jamshedpur, will be repeated in other locations also to strengthen Safety awareness on PPE.2
