Jamshedpur, : Tata Education Excellence Program (TEEP) in collaboration with J N Tata Vocational Training Institute (JNTVTI) launched a Vocational Training Programme at Kasidih High School. This 3-month mandatory programme was piloted for Standard 9 students.
The programme is integrated into the school curriculum and being held in hobby class with an option to choose from three vocational skills. It includes practical and hands-on training along with a short course book of elementary theoretical concepts of the skills. The training gears to meet a set of performance criteria to ensure a satisfactory level of student competence in understanding the skill.
Chanakya Chaudhary, Chairperson, TEEP Executive Committee and Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, Ruchi Narendran, Member, TEEP Executive Committee and Managing Trustee, JUSCO Education Mission (JEM) Foundation graced the occasion with their presence. A F Madon, Administrator JEM Foundation, Member TEEP Executive Committee, Dr Pankaj Kumar, Chief Total Quality Management & Corporate Quality Assurance (CQA), Tata Steel, Tripti Srivastava, Member TEEP Committee and Chief TQM & CQA designate, Tata Steel, M K Verma, Director JNTVTI also attended the inauguration ceremony.
Francis Joseph, Principal, Kasidih High School highlighted the need and relevance for the vocational training programme while Ankur Gandotra, Head Total Quality Management, TEEP & Business Assessments, Tata Steel shared the main highlights of the programme.
Jaya Singh Panda, Chief Learning & Development and Chief Diversity Officer, Tata Steel who was also present on this occasion talked about the efforts that went into planning for this programme and added that once this program was piloted and launched, more no. of skills would be added to this program, keeping in mind the interests of the students.
After formally inaugurating the course book for the Vocational Training Programme, Ruchi Narendran commended this initiative on being an agile, proactive measure by the school, TEEP and JNTVTI to align to the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
After a short cultural programme by students, Chanakya Chaudhary addressed the gathering. He asserted that the objective of this programme is in alignment with the focus of the nation on formalising the skills sector, providing a boost to entrepreneurship and ramping up skills through vocational education. He also appreciated the efforts of Kasidih High School to pioneer this programme and hoped for implementation of the same in more schools in future.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by TEEP Team Executive, Vidya Battiwalla.
