Concern Over Train Delays
The delegation informed the DRM that superfast, express, and passenger trains passing through Tatanagar are frequently detained to prioritize freight trains. This practice often results in significant delays, causing inconvenience to passengers. Responding to the concern, the DRM explained that the Chakradharpur Division experiences heavy rail traffic while platform and track capacity remains limited. However, he assured that efforts are underway to improve operational efficiency.
Demand for Passenger-Friendly Facilities
To enhance passenger comfort, especially for senior citizens, patients, and differently-abled travelers, the Chamber demanded the introduction of battery-operated cars on all platforms at Tatanagar Station. The DRM assured that the battery car facility would be introduced soon.

Vande Bharat Express Expansion Proposal
Considering Tatanagar’s importance as an industrial hub with high passenger volume, the delegation requested an increase in seat quota and VIP quota. A major demand raised was the extension of the Howrah–Rourkela Vande Bharat Express up to Jharsuguda and the early launch of the long-awaited Tata–Varanasi Vande Bharat Express. The DRM advised that such proposals should be pursued with the Railway Board or the Ministry of Railways for approval.
Reducing Load on Tatanagar Station
To manage growing passenger pressure, the Chamber suggested operating or halting certain trains at Adityapur Station. The DRM informed that a proposal for this has already been sent to the Railway Board, and the final decision rests with them.
Infrastructure and Future Projects
The delegation also proposed adding extra AC chair car coaches to premium trains like Rajdhani and Duronto to reduce waiting lists. Regarding the proposed third rail line between Chakradharpur and Tatanagar, the DRM stated that the project would likely begin in April 2026, as it requires daily operational blocks of at least six hours.
Other Key Issues Raised
Concerns were also raised over the delayed arrival of the Howrah–Tatanagar Steel Express, waterlogging near the railway underbridge at Tata Pigment during monsoon, and the need for better coordination with railway users. The DRM assured prompt action on these issues.
Additionally, the Chamber proposed organizing a vendor meet or exhibition in Jamshedpur in February. The DRM agreed to conduct a vendor meet soon at the Chamber premises.
The delegation also met senior railway officials and requested continued representation of the Chamber in ZRUCC and DRUCC committees to effectively raise passenger concerns.
