Jamshedpur, August 23, 2021: Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing & Processing Company Private Limited (JCAPCPL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) on the Company’s 9th Anniversary on August 17, 2021, to forge a meaningful partnership in setting up the first SABAL Centre at Jamshedpur for supporting the cause for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Further to this, JCAPCPL shall also actively work with TSF offering support to strengthen their “Masti ki Pathshala” (MKP) initiative in Jamshedpur.

The MoU was signed by Mr Ujjal Chakraborti, MD, JCAPCPL and by Mr. Sourav Roy, Chief, Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel. The three-year collaboration branded as “Coming Together” aims to purposefully engage with TSF and be a part of the development narrative of these two high impact projects with active involvement of all employees.

SABAL is a one-of-its-kind among centres in India that envision a life of dignity for Persons with Disability (PWDs), and is a one stop resource centre for skilling, employability and financial independence for PWDs. It also builds capacity of other organizations as well as of individuals from within communities through a training-of-trainers (ToT) programme. JCAPCPL will partner with TSF to set up the first intended SABAL Centre at Sakchi, Jamshedpur viz- modification/upgradation, computer lab, experience cum Innovation centre. For subsequent years, the allocated budget is proposed to be spent on operational expenditure requirements through this “in-principle” agreement. TSF aims to launch the Jamshedpur SABAL Centre by December 2021.

Masti Ki Pathshala is a citizen led programme aimed at enabling Jamshedpur to be a city free of the worst forms of child labour. Structured through residential and non-residential bridge schools, it attempts to mainstream children, who are engaged in the worst forms of child labour (rag picking, begging, brick-kiln-workers, etc.) and manifestations of abuse, to the formal education system. The programme has seen immense success and goodwill in the last 4 years, reaches more than 1,200 children as of date and is on a fast impact growth path in line with the aspirations of the children who rest at the core of the idea The MoU is intended to support 40 kids at the Sarjamda (Jharkhand) MKP Centre for the a year to begin with, and the larger intent is to nurture the 40 lives at the Centre through continuous involvement.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chakraborti emphasised: “Need active participation of all employees of JCAPCPL with their specific engagement of spending active time to build the initiative. We should take each milestone forward and be actively involved with this journey.”

Mr Roy said: “The objective of partnerships is to create models that will work in all contexts, geographies, along with an honesty of purpose and citizens’ efforts. That is where the involvement of JCAPCPL is especially commendable in trying to make a decadal transformation in these areas.”
