Foundation Laid in 2019, Work Yet to Begin
Addressing the gathering, SCCI President Manav Kedia said that the foundation stone of the Dhalbhumgarh Airport was laid in January 2019, but even after several years, the actual construction work has not started.
He emphasized that Jamshedpur is one of the major industrial cities of eastern India, and the absence of direct air connectivity is hindering the growth of industry, trade, investment and tourism. He urged both the Central Government and the Jharkhand Government to remove all procedural and regulatory hurdles and announce a clear timeline for starting the project.
Airport Will Boost Investment and Employment
SCCI General Secretary Puneet Kauntia said that the business community and residents of Jamshedpur have been waiting for the project for many years. According to him, the airport will significantly improve connectivity in the Kolhan region and help attract new investments, industrial expansion and employment opportunities.
Vice President Abhishek Agarwal (Goldy) added that despite being an important industrial hub, Jamshedpur still lacks direct air services. He noted that once the airport becomes operational, it will also strengthen economic links with neighboring regions of West Bengal and Odisha.
MP Assures Support for the Project
Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato also participated in the protest and addressed the gathering. He stated that the Dhalbhumgarh Airport project is crucial for the development of Jamshedpur and the entire Kolhan region.
He assured the public that he would continue to raise the issue strongly before the Central Government to ensure that the project moves forward at the earliest.
Memorandum Submitted to the Chief Minister
After the protest, a memorandum addressed to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was submitted through the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum in the presence of Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan.
The memorandum requested the state government to coordinate with the central authorities and expedite the implementation of this crucial infrastructure project.
