A monumental achievement in the field of medical science and education has emerged from the Jamshedpur and Chaibasa region. Dr. Shovit Ranjan and his dedicated team from the PG Department of Zoology at Kolhan University, Chaibasa, have been granted a Design Registration Certificate by the Patent Office, Government of India. This prestigious recognition was awarded for their highly innovative research project, the “AI-Based Blood Sugar Test Device.”
Accurate Prediction of Future Diabetes Risk
Developed entirely on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, this device aims to make blood sugar testing more accurate, simple, and effective. According to Dr. Shovit Ranjan, this modern equipment is significantly more advanced than existing machines. Its most groundbreaking feature is its ability to accurately predict the percentage of chances a person has of becoming diabetic in the future, marking a major milestone in medical research and health-tech.
The Patent and the Research Team
The design patent was officially issued under the Design Act, 2000, and Design Rules, 2001. The application for this device was filed during the financial year 2024-25 and has now been successfully granted by the Government of India. This breakthrough is the result of collaborative efforts by an expert team of researchers, which includes Dr. Ben Sujitha B., Dr. Shovit Ranjan, Chandrakant Hatti, Shanmugha Priya R. K., R. S. R. Thenmozhi, Rahul Verma, Ramesh Dahal, and Dr. Lokendra Bahadur Kathayat.
Over a Decade of Diabetes Research
Dr. Shovit Ranjan’s journey in medical research spans over a decade, having rigorously studied diabetes since 2013. He completed his BSc and MSc from Delhi University before earning his PhD from the Central University of Jharkhand. He also served as an Assistant Professor at Delhi University for about five years. The revolutionary concept for this AI device was conceptualized by Dr. Ranjan and his team while attending various national and international conferences.
