Some old videos showing crowd at various stations are making rounds in social media. Some news reports also falsely mention that there is mass movement of people for trains. We appeal everyone to avoid sharing such videos. People are requested not to believe in such rumours shared through different media.
Shri Anupam Sharma, Additional General Manager, South Eastern Railway through a virtual press conference held today (09-4-2021) appealed to everyone that any assumption may please be avoided in such challenging circumstances of COVID-19. He appealed to the valued passengers not to pay attention to any rumour and they need not to panic about availability of trains. Moreover, no extra rush other than confirmed ticket holding passengers has been observed at any station in SER’s jurisdiction.
Shri Sharma also said SER is running trains for the convenience of passengers and adequate tickets are available as only passengers having confirmed tickets are being permitted to board the trains. Moreover, close watch is being kept on the passenger trains movement.
At present SER is running 104 pairs of mail/express special trains, 31 pairs of passenger trains and 146 EMU services. Now a days on an average about 56,000 passenger tickets are booked through PRS instead of 70,000 in normal situation. In case of un-reserved tickets, the average number of passengers commuting is 3.7 lakhs per day whereas it was 4.1 lakh passengers per day in normal circumstances.
Addl. General Manager, SER also added that passengers are advised to adhere strictly to all norms and health protocols related to COVID-19 during the boarding, travel and at destination.
All Divisional Railway Managers of South Eastern Railway also appealed passengers to wear mask properly, wash hands regularly with soap/water and sanitizer and maintain social distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
