
Jamshedpur – A traffic and road safety review meeting was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi. The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, ADM (Law & Order) Bhagirath Prasad, District Transport Officer Dhananjay, SDMs of Ghatshila and Dhalbhum, DSPs from various divisions including Traffic DSP Neeraj and Headquarters DSP Bhola Prasad, along with other departmental officials.

During the meeting, officials reviewed recent road accident data and expressed serious concern over the rising fatalities. In the past one month, 22 road accidents were reported in the district, resulting in 10 deaths and 20 serious injuries. Significantly, 8 of the deceased were not wearing helmets, which directly contributed to the fatalities.
The DC and SSP instructed that petrol pump operators should deny fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets, and the traffic police should intensify enforcement drives.
The meeting also emphasized promoting the Good Samaritan policy, which encourages bystanders to help accident victims during the “Golden Hour” without fear of legal complications. On this occasion, Kishan Gupta, a resident of Khariyasai, Potka, was honored with a ₹2000 reward for promptly taking an injured person to the hospital and saving a life. Officials praised his selfless act and highlighted that Good Samaritans are protected from any legal action, a message to be widely communicated to the public.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed 35 pending Hit and Run compensation cases and directed the DTO to expedite payouts to affected families. The NHAI representative was instructed to install sliding barriers at blind curves and ensure adequate lighting at black spots to prevent accidents.

Regarding enforcement, officials revealed that in May 2025 alone, 366 driving licenses were suspended for traffic rule violations. A total fine of ₹23.5 lakh was collected, mainly from two-wheeler riders without helmets and four-wheeler drivers not wearing seatbelts.
Additionally, 2001 new driving licenses were issued during the month, comprising 1695 men and 305 women.
