In a major breakthrough against organised crime, Jamshedpur Police have arrested six criminals, including a notorious member of the Amarnath gang, Ankit Sharma, during a late-night operation in the MGM police station area. The arrested group includes four men and two women. Police recovered illegal automatic country-made pistols, live cartridges, mobile phones and a vehicle from their possession.
The arrests were confirmed by the DSP of Patamda during a press briefing held at the SSP office on Monday afternoon. According to police officials, the operation was carried out following a crucial tip-off received by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey on the night of December 14.
As per the intelligence input, six criminals had gathered at a farmhouse belonging to Anil Kumar, located in Rambalak Nagar under Turiyabera area. The suspects were reportedly planning a major criminal operation targeting business establishments in different parts of the city. Taking the information seriously, the SSP directed the formation of a special raiding team under the leadership of the MGM Police Station in-charge.
The police team conducted a swift raid at the farmhouse and arrested all six accused on the spot. During the search, police seized loaded illegal automatic pistols, live ammunition and other incriminating materials. Two women were also found actively involved in the planning and were taken into custody along with the male accused.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed that they had assembled at the farmhouse under the pretext of a liquor party. However, their real intention was to chalk out plans for extorting money from businessmen operating in areas such as Ulidih, Mango and MGM police station limits. The gang aimed to create fear and dominance in the region through threats and armed intimidation.
Police have registered a case under various sections of the Arms Act at MGM Police Station. The arrested accused have been identified as Ankit Sharma, Anil Kumar, Bhola Kumar alias Ravi Kumar, Yogendra Kumar Prasad, Maya Kaur alias Nisha, and Sita Devi.
According to police records, prime accused Ankit Sharma is a hardened criminal with multiple serious cases registered against him. Other members of the gang also have criminal antecedents, indicating their deep involvement in organised crime activities in the city.
All the accused have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Police have intensified raids to trace and arrest other absconding members of the Amarnath gang. Senior officials stated that strict action will continue against criminal networks to ensure law and order and protect businessmen and citizens from extortion and violence.
