According to police, a large quantity of silver jewellery, a lock-cutting tool, a country-made pistol, and live cartridges were seized from the arrested accused. With these arrests, police have successfully solved several theft cases reported in the Golmuri and Birsanagar police station areas.
SSP Reveals Details in Press Briefing
SSP Piyush Pandey, while addressing a press conference, said that the three arrested accused were involved in theft cases across Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. The gang had been operating in a highly organized manner, targeting residential areas in different cities.
Gang Fled to Nepal After Thefts
The SSP further revealed that after committing major thefts in Jamshedpur, the accused fled to Nepal, where they sold the stolen goods and spent the money on gambling. After exhausting their funds, they took shelter in Patna, where they were eventually traced and arrested.
SIT Formed, Technical Surveillance Led to Arrests
After receiving intelligence inputs about the gang’s movement, police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Using technical surveillance, mobile tracking, and intelligence inputs, the team conducted a raid in Patna and successfully nabbed all three accused.
Google Maps Used to Identify Locked Houses
During interrogation, the accused made startling revelations. They confessed to using Google Maps to identify locked and vacant houses in residential areas. The gang would break in at night and flee the city immediately after committing the crime to avoid detection.
Jewellery Melted to Erase Identification
The accused also admitted that the stolen jewellery was melted before being sold, making it difficult for police to trace and identify the stolen items.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
All three accused are being sent to judicial custody, while police are verifying their criminal antecedents. Efforts are also underway to identify and arrest other members linked to the gang.
Relief for City Residents
Police officials believe that the arrest of this interstate gang will significantly help in curbing theft incidents in Jamshedpur and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
