
Jamshedpur: Commemorating the 122nd birth anniversary of J R D Tata, the visionary industrialist, aviator and former Chairman of the Tata Group, Tata Steel today organized the J R D Tata Annual Inter-School Quiz Competition 2026 in Jamshedpur. The quiz competition, which has been conducted annually since 1994, continues to inspire young minds by fostering a spirit of learning, curiosity and healthy competition.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 20 schools across Jamshedpur, with over 180 students taking part. The quiz was conducted in two stages—a Preliminary Round and a Final Round. Based on their performance in the preliminaries, six teams qualified for the finale, where students demonstrated their knowledge, analytical skills and teamwork through a series of challenging rounds.
The event was graced by Ms. D. B. Sailaja as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the enduring relevance of J R D Tata’s values and underscored the importance of cultivating curiosity, a spirit of excellence and lifelong learning among students. She noted that initiatives such as quiz competitions provide an excellent platform for young minds to broaden their horizons, expand their knowledge and develop the confidence to excel in an increasingly dynamic world.

Adding a creative dimension to the programme, an Origami Art Session was conducted by Tanvi Jaitha Shah, a Jamshedpur-based entrepreneur, artist and Founder of Art Apart, a creative education and events company that designs interactive art workshops, DIY experiences and corporate engagement activities for children, families, schools and organizations. Using recycled paper, students created watches and aeroplanes, paying tribute to J R D Tata’s remarkable legacy. While the aeroplane reflected his pioneering contribution to Indian civil aviation, the watch symbolized innovation, precision and excellence. The activity encouraged students to blend creativity with sustainability while learning about the life and contributions of J R D Tata.

The winning team received a cash prize of ₹10,000, while the first runner-up team received ₹8,000 and the second runner-up team received ₹6,000. Further adding to the excitement, the winners and first runners-up will also be awarded a special helicopter “Joy Ride” experience, creating a memorable reward for their outstanding performance in the competition.
Over the past three decades, the J R D Tata Annual Inter-School Quiz Competition has evolved into one of Jamshedpur’s most anticipated academic events, encouraging generations of students to develop critical thinking skills, expand their knowledge and imbibe the values exemplified by J R D Tata.
As a fitting tribute to one of India’s greatest nation-builders, the event reaffirmed Tata Steel’s commitment to promoting education, intellectual development and holistic learning among the youth.
