
JAMSHEDPUR: In continuation of its press release dated May 10, 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a crucial new official statement. With the approval of the Government of India, the NTA has taken the major decision to completely cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026. This strict step has been taken to maintain transparency in the examination system based on inputs and investigative findings from law enforcement agencies.

CBI to Conduct Detailed Probe into Paper Leak and Irregularities
The NTA clarified that the matter was handed over to central agencies on May 8 itself. Now, the Government of India has entrusted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a comprehensive inquiry into the entire matter and the allegations raised. The NTA stated that it will extend full cooperation to the investigative agency (CBI) and provide all necessary materials, records, and assistance required for the probe.
Major Relief for Students: Fee Refund and No New Charges
The agency has acknowledged the significant inconvenience caused to 22 lakh students due to the cancellation of the exam. To protect the interests of the students and maintain their trust in the national examination system, several key decisions have been made:
Fee Refund: The examination fee previously deposited by the students will be fully refunded.
Free Re-examination: No additional fee will be charged from the students for the re-test. This exam will be re-conducted using the NTA’s ‘internal resources’.
No Fresh Registration: The registration data, candidature, and examination centers opted for in the May 2026 cycle will be carried forward for the re-conducted examination. Students will not need to undertake any fresh registration.
New Dates and Fresh Admit Cards to be Issued Soon
The NTA stated that the new dates for re-conducting the examination and the re-issued admit card schedule will be announced in the coming days through the agency’s official channels.
