Unique Awareness Campaign to Drive PM Surya Ghar Yojana at Grassroots
Bhubaneswar/Jamshedpur: On the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra, Tata Power has rolled out a landmark green initiative by launching Odisha’s first-ever ‘Solar Rath’. This first-of-its-kind mobile awareness campaign is designed to bring the message of clean energy directly to people’s doorsteps. The primary objective of this vehicle is to accelerate the adoption of residential rooftop solar systems under the Government of India’s flagship scheme, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The initiative has been introduced through TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha. This campaign aims to empower consumers to generate their own clean electricity, reduce dependency on traditional grids, and transition towards a highly sustainable energy future.

Odisha Emerges as National Leader in Rooftop Solar Adoption
This mega outreach campaign comes at a time when Odisha has secured national recognition for its stellar implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The state was recently honored as the top-performing state in the medium consumer base category at the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Awards.
Driven by the collaborative efforts of Tata Power-led Odisha DISCOMs and the State Government, Odisha secured top spots across crucial operational parameters. These include total consumer applications processed, final rooftop solar installations commissioned, and speed of DISCOM technical inspections.
Over 1.5 Lakh Households Successfully Solarized Across the State
Thanks to the continuous efforts of Tata Power DISCOMs, more than 1.5 lakh rooftop solar installations have already been successfully commissioned across Odisha. The momentum is exceptionally strong at the grassroots level. Multiple districts have already crossed the milestone of 10,000 individual rooftop installations, and several villages are rapidly progressing toward becoming fully solarized zones. This massive transition is significantly lowering monthly electricity bills for thousands of families while paving the way for complete rural energy self-reliance.

Dedicated ‘Solar Sanga’ to Guide Rural and Urban Consumers
In its initial phase, the Solar Rath will intensively travel across prominent public locations, local marketplaces, and villages in the Puri and Dhenkanal districts. Accompanying the mobile unit is ‘Solar Sanga’, a dedicated outreach ambassador.
The Solar Sanga will directly interact with households to explain the concrete financial benefits of rooftop solar, clear the air on central and state government financial subsidies, outline eligibility criteria, and assist with the step-by-step application process. Furthermore, consumers will be guided on optimal setup choices, including the highly cost-effective 1 kW ULA solar model designed for smaller households.
A Vision for Complete Clean Energy Independence
Speaking on the launch, Gajanan S. Kale, CEO of TPCODL and Chief of Odisha Distribution Business, stated that just as the Rath Yatra symbolizes taking blessings directly to the people, the Solar Rath carries the vital message of clean energy and financial independence straight to communities. The PM Surya Ghar scheme is fundamentally changing how households consume and generate power. Through this campaign, Tata Power aims to simplify the solar adoption process, helping every household easily become an active partner in India’s ongoing green energy transition.
