JAMSHEDPUR

Captain Manish, a resident of Mango in Jamshedpur, has achieved something that sends shivers down the spine just imagining it. Stranded for the past one and a half months in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s maritime route, amidst terrifying war conditions and the constant shadow of missiles, Captain Manish has finally returned home safely to Jamshedpur along with his cargo ship and 40 crew members. His safe return has brought a massive sigh of relief to his family and the local residents, spreading an atmosphere of joy and pride throughout the area.

Face to Face with Death in Iran’s Strait of Hormuz
Captain Manish is the commander of a massive oil cargo vessel. Sharing his harrowing experience, he recounted that the terrifying ordeal began right after they left an Iranian port with the ship fully loaded with highly flammable oil. The vessel had barely covered a distance of 10 kilometers from the port when a fierce war suddenly broke out. The roar of missiles began echoing in the sky, and amidst the vast sea, flashes of light and showers of fiery embers could be seen all around. It was a highly critical moment where even the slightest mistake could trigger massive destruction.

The Roar of Missiles and the Captain’s Presence of Mind
In such life-threatening and highly stressful circumstances, Captain Manish displayed extraordinary leadership and presence of mind without showing any signs of panic. Witnessing missiles raining from the sky, his immediate action was to completely switch off the ship’s GPS system so their location would become invisible on any radar. Right after this, as a strict precautionary measure, he cut off all internet connections and turned off every single light on the vessel, plunging the massive ship into pitch-black darkness to avoid detection. He then identified a relatively safe spot and dropped anchor right in the middle of the sea.

40 Lives at Stake and the Fear of 50-Kilometer Devastation
At that terrifying moment, there were 40 crew members on board, and the entire responsibility for their lives rested firmly on the captain’s shoulders. Manish revealed that his biggest fear was the massive quantity of highly combustible oil loaded on the ship. If even a tiny spark from a passing missile had accidentally landed on their vessel, it would have caused an unimaginable, catastrophic explosion in the ocean. The resulting blast would have incinerated all equipment, fishermen, and other vessels within a 50-kilometer radius into ashes within minutes.

Return to the Homeland and Honor Post Ceasefire
Spending one and a half months stranded in the middle of the ocean under the shadow of death, completely cut off from the outside world, was nothing short of a nightmare. As soon as a ceasefire was announced and the situation normalized, Captain Manish breathed a sigh of relief and safely steered his ship out of the danger zone. Upon receiving the news of his safe return to Jamshedpur, former BJP leader Vikas Singh visited his residence in Mango. There, he met Captain Manish and honored him for his immense bravery by presenting him with a traditional shawl. The extraordinary patience and courage of Captain Manish have now become a major topic of discussion across the entire city.
