JAMSHEDPUR (Jharkhand Education News): In a massive relief for thousands of parents at the beginning of the new academic session, the East Singhbhum district administration has taken a tough stance against the monopoly and arbitrary practices of private schools in Jamshedpur. Chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shri Karn Satyarthi, a high-level district monitoring committee meeting was held to bring transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to government regulations within the private education sector. The DC has issued stern directives to school managements, warning them against illegal fee hikes and the forced purchase of books and uniforms from specific vendors.

Strict Ban on Unjustified Fee Hikes
The Deputy Commissioner made it crystal clear to education department officials and private school representatives that no institution can arbitrarily increase its fee structure. All private schools operating in Jamshedpur must strictly comply with the fee increment rules and guidelines laid down by the Jharkhand State Government. DC Karn Satyarthi warned that any school found indulging in unjustified or illegal fee extortion under any pretext will face severe administrative and legal action. This decisive move aims to curb the financial exploitation of parents and ensure a fair education system.
🧾 End to Hidden Charges: Transparent Fee Receipts Mandatory
To eliminate the deceptive practice of ‘hidden charges,’ the district administration has mandated complete transparency in financial transactions. Schools often demand lump-sum payments without clarifying the breakdown. Moving forward, every private school is required to issue a highly detailed fee receipt. Each financial head—such as Tuition Fee, Development Charge, Transportation Fee, and Examination Fee—must be distinctly and separately mentioned on the receipt. This ensures that parents know exactly what they are paying for, leaving no room for confusion or unauthorized fee collections.
Complete Freedom to Purchase Books and Uniforms
Breaking the long-standing ‘commission nexus’ between private schools and select vendors, the DC announced the most highly anticipated relief for parents. No school management can force, dictate, or pressure parents to buy textbooks, notebooks, stationery, or school uniforms from the school premises or any specific, designated book store. Parents now have the absolute freedom to purchase these items from the open market anywhere based on their budget and convenience. If any school is found creating pressure or indulging in the commission game, strict disciplinary action will be initiated.
‘Fee Fixation Committee’ Board is Now Compulsory on Campus
Taking a giant leap towards transparency and easier grievance redressal, the Deputy Commissioner has ordered all private schools to publicly display the details of their officially constituted ‘Fee Fixation Committee’. Schools must install a large, clearly visible board at a prominent place within the campus. This board must feature the names, designations, and contact numbers of all committee members. This proactive measure will allow parents to easily reach out to the concerned authorities in case of any grievances or doubts.
Furthermore, the district administration has announced that surprise inspections and regular monitoring will be conducted to ensure strict compliance with these orders. DC Karn Satyarthi appealed to school managements to act responsibly, prioritize the quality of education over commercialization, and maintain a transparent, parent-friendly environment.
