Tata Steel’s Odisha Mines Bag 23 Awards at 43rd Annual Metalliferous Mines Safety Fortnight Observance

Bhubaneswar/Joda,: Tata Steel’s Odisha mines won a total of 23 awards at the 43rd Annual Metalliferous Mines Safety Fortnight Observance – 2025 held in Bhubaneswar, under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region–1 and 2 on Saturday.

In the A-1 Overall Performance Category, Katamati Iron Mine secured the first position, while Khondbondh Iron Mine achieved the second position in the same category.Katamati Iron Mine also secured first place in the General Working and Training categories, and third place in Mechanical Maintenance and Electrical Maintenance categories.Similarly, Khondbondh Iron Mine secured first place in Mechanical Maintenance and Electrical Maintenance, and third place in the Innovative Digitization category.

In the event, Joda East Iron Mine secured first place in Innovative Digitization and Training & Awareness, and second place in Drilling & Blasting and Electrical Maintenance categories.

Additionally, Tata Steel received first prize for both Vocational Training and Occupational Health, respectively. The program was attended by Ujjwal Tah, Director General, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Dhanbad, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Shyam Sundar Prasad, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (South Eastern Zone), Ranchi, Rajeev Lochan Mohanty, President, Eastern Zone Mining Association, Awanish Kumar Mishra, Director of Mines Safety (Bhubaneswar–1), Naseena Balasubrahmanyam, Director of Mines Safety (Bhubaneswar–2) and Debasish Jena, General Manager (OMQ), Tata Steel. Mine agents,Union representatives, mine managers, officers, and employees from various mining companies were also present on the occasion.

Stalls set up by different mining companies and vendor partners were visited by the guests. These stalls showcased best safety practices and safety equipments used in mining operations.

Mines Safety Week is organized every year across different regions of the country to promote safe working practices in mines and to significantly reduce mining accidents.
