Sukinda/Jamshedpur,: Tata Steel Foundation observed World Humanitarian Day at Tata Steel’s Sukinda Chromite Mine, honouring individuals who exemplify courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to humanity. The event celebrated the extraordinary deeds of ordinary people whose actions have brought hope and dignity to many.

On the occasion that is commemorated to pay tribute to humanitarian workers who continue to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need, the Foundation felicitated Chittaranjan Jena and Gouranga Das from Jagatsinghpur district and Rajendra Biswal from Jajpur district for their noble humanitarian contributions.

Jena was recognised for his remarkable bravery in saving lives. He rescued a man in his sixties from the floodwaters of river Devi and, in another incident, pulled an elderly villager to safety from a burning thatched house.

Das received the acknowledgement for his constant endeavour in organising voluntary cleaning activities and teaching the poor students for free in his area.

Biswal was honoured for his lifelong dedication to serving humanity. Each year, he organises multiple voluntary blood donation camps, provides food for the destitute, and takes on the solemn duty of performing the last rites for unidentified human bodies—ensuring dignity even in death.

Appreciating such noble efforts, Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge, Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) of Tata Steel said, “True heroes are seemingly ordinary people who choose to act with extraordinary compassion. By honouring these selfless individuals, we celebrate the very essence of humanity and reaffirm our belief that communities grow stronger when kindness leads the way. Their stories inspire us to work towards a society rooted in care and subsumed in ethos of Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam.”

The honourees shared their inspiring journeys with the gathering, leaving the audience deeply moved. Jayant Kumar Tripathi, Unit Head (Sukinda and Bamnipal), Tata Steel Foundation, Pramod Kumar, Head (Administration), FAMD, Naveen Srivastava, Head, Sukinda Chromite Mine, Rajesh Ekka, Senior Area Manager (Electrical), FAMD, Viraj Verlekar, Senior Area Manager (Geology), FAMD, Nishan Mohanty, Assistant Manager (Administration), FAMD and other senior officials and workers from Tata Steel attended the programme which served as a reminder of the transformative power of empathy and service.
