A tragic accident has struck Barigoda Devgam Tola, under the Parasdih police station area of Jamshedpur, where a wall collapse claimed the life of a 9‑month‑old infant, Ashish Karuwa, and left his 8‑year‑old sister Laksita critically injured.
According to local reports, Ashish and Laksita were playing near their home when a cement‑laden carrier tempo was unloading material at a nearby residence belonging to Tunnu Jaswal. The tempo attempted to reverse, collided with a wall, causing it to collapse. The falling wall buried both the children in rubble.
Family members rushed them to Tata Motors Hospital. Doctors declared Ashish dead on arrival. Laksita suffered a fractured leg and is undergoing treatment. Their mother was away bathing, and their father, Sukhram Karuwa, a contract laborer with Lafarge Company, was at work at the time.

Devastated, the family alleges negligence: they say a narrow road had accumulated loose gravel, making traffic movement difficult. They claim the tempo driver backed up carelessly and struck the wall. As news of the accident spread, distraught relatives gathered at the site, seeking justice.
The Parasdih police quickly responded to the incident, detaining the tempo driver and vehicle, and have initiated an investigation. The community is in mourning: as Sukhram Karuwa had born three daughters before finally getting a son, the loss of Ashish has shaken them deeply.
This accident highlights concerns over safety in residential areas, especially when traffic rules are disregarded and construction debris or materials block or complicate road access. The family’s appeals to law enforcement and local administration are for accountability, compensation, and stricter safety precautions to prevent such tragedies in future.
