Jamshedpur: Continuous heavy rainfall in East Singhbhum district has severely impacted normal life, with the Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers crossing their danger levels. The district administration has issued an alert, urging residents to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines.
According to official data, the water level of the Swarnarekha River at Mango Bridge site has risen above the danger mark of 121.50 meters, reaching 121.64 meters. Similarly, the Kharkai River at Adityapur Bridge site has surged past the danger mark of 129.00 meters, currently recorded at 130.15 meters. This rise in water levels poses a potential flood threat to low-lying areas.
The administration has directed residents living near riverbanks and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and shift to higher ground if necessary. Officials also urged the public not to believe in rumors and to strictly follow the advisories being issued.
The Disaster Management Department is closely monitoring the situation, while the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and local police have been put on high alert to ensure immediate relief and rescue operations if required. District officials have warned that any negligence could lead to loss of lives.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has also been alerted to prepare for any possible outbreak of diseases in flood-affected areas. People have been advised to keep essential supplies, drinking water, and medicines stocked at home. The administration has further appealed to residents to remain careful with electrical appliances during the ongoing heavy rains.
The continuous rainfall and swelling river levels have triggered anxiety among residents of Jamshedpur and its surrounding regions. However, the administration assured that the situation is under control and there is no need for panic.
