Jamshedpur: A high-level review meeting on prison security was held at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi. The meeting focused on strengthening security arrangements, infrastructure, and operational systems in various jails of the district.
Security Review of Three Jails
A detailed assessment was conducted for Ghaghidih Central Jail, Sakchi Divisional Jail, and Ghatshila Sub-Jail. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed prisoner cells, jail hospital facilities, watch towers, CCTV surveillance systems, lighting, sanitation, and drinking water supply. He clearly stated that negligence at any level would not be tolerated and directed that periodic security audits be conducted.
Immediate Repair of Hand Pumps
It was reported that nearly half of the 50 hand pumps installed at Ghaghidih Central Jail are currently non-functional. The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to take immediate steps to repair the faulty hand pumps to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply for inmates.

Strengthening Watch Tower Security
To enhance perimeter security, discussions were held regarding deployment of JAP (Jharkhand Armed Police) personnel in watch towers. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Superintendent of Police to coordinate with JAP headquarters to requisition additional security forces. Regular patrolling, surprise inspections, and better coordination among departments were emphasized.
Infrastructure Strengthening
Instructions were issued to prepare estimates and obtain technical approvals for repair and renovation of barracks, jail hospital, and other structural components. The administration reiterated that prison security is a highly sensitive matter and must be handled with utmost seriousness.
Senior officials including SP (Rural) Rishabh Garg, Rail SP Ajit Kumar, SDM Dhalbhum Arnab Mishra, SDO Ghatshila Sunil Chandra, DTO Dhananjay, ADM (SOR) Rahul Ji Anand, DSP and other departmental officers were present at the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that ensuring inmate safety and strengthening jail administration remains a top priority.
