JAMSHEDPUR: A sensational weekend clash outside the ‘Double Down Pub & Bar’ in Bistupur has turned fatal. Himanshu, a youth who suffered grievous injuries in a violent chopper (cleaver) attack on Saturday night, breathed his last on Monday evening while undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH). With his death after a tense two-day battle for life, the police have officially upgraded the case to a full-fledged murder investigation. Another youth injured in the brawl, Pratyush, continues to undergo medical treatment. Following the tragic news, heavy police deployment has turned Bistupur and the TMH campus into a fortress to curb rising tensions.

The Spark: A 6 PM Dispute Inside the Pub
According to the FIR registered at the Bistupur Police Station, the roots of the bloody showdown trace back to a heated argument that erupted inside the pub around 6:00 PM on Saturday. The verbal altercation smoldered for hours inside the venue before exploding into brutal violence once the groups stepped out late at night. The attackers ambushed Himanshu and Pratyush with sharp meat cleavers. Showing swift reflex, city police apprehended two prime suspects—Sonu Ram Sardar and Raj Lohar—directly from the crime scene, later recovering the blood-stained murder weapon based on their leads.
Pub Owners & BJP Leader Among 10 Named
Following Himanshu’s death, investigators added Section 302 (Murder) to the docket. The high-profile FIR names a total of 10 individuals, prominently including Double Down Bar co-owners Neeraj Singh (a local BJP leader) and Vijay Kumar. The remaining accused identified in the police records are Sonu Ram Sardar alias Sonu Mandal, Vishwanath Mandal, Rahul, Raj Lohar, Amit Lohar, Arjun Lohar, and Ganesh Lohar (all residents of Dhatkidih, Saraikela), alongside Lakhan Mardi of Ghaghidih, Jamshedpur.

Kshatriya Sangh & Karni Sena Issue Ultimatum

Office bearers of the Kshatriya Sangh and Karni Sena have voiced intense displeasure over the local law enforcement’s grip on pub cultures. The organizations have served a stern ultimatum demanding the immediate arrest of the absconding bar owners and permanent cancellation of the pub’s operating license. Acting on the Senior Superintendent of Police’s (SSP) directives, riot control units remain stationed across sensitive Bistupur intersections to maintain law and order.
