Jamshedpur: The Bistupur police have successfully solved the major theft case reported at J.M.A. Stores on December 1, involving a missing amount of ₹12.47 lakh from the office locker. The incident came to light when the store management filed a written complaint after discovering that the cash stored in the locker had disappeared.

Following the complaint, Jamshedpur Police immediately launched an investigation. Based on technical inputs, CCTV analysis, and circumstantial evidence, suspicion gradually centered on Ravi Ranjan, a long-time staff member of the store. Police detained him for questioning.

During sustained interrogation and mounting evidence, the accused eventually confessed to committing the theft. A surprising revelation surfaced during the investigation—Ravi Ranjan did not move the stolen cash outside the premises. Instead, he hid it within the office building itself. Acting on his statement, police recovered ₹8,91,500 from the office.
According to officials, Ravi Ranjan had been working at J.M.A. Stores for almost 20 years and had no previous criminal record. On the day of the incident, the store’s cashier happened to be on leave. During this period, Ravi Ranjan noticed where the locker key was kept, seized the opportunity, and executed the theft. He then concealed the money inside the office to avoid suspicion.
Police noted that his long tenure and the trust he had gained over the years may have emboldened him to commit the crime. After completing preliminary procedures, the police produced him before the court, following which he has been sent to judicial custody.
Authorities added that efforts are still underway to recover the remaining stolen amount. If any other individual is found involved during further investigation, appropriate action will be taken. Police emphasized that swift action, along with detailed technical analysis, played a crucial role in cracking the case promptly.
