The Indian Postal Department delivered a special invitation letter to Padma Shri awardee Jamuna Tudu at her residence in Chakulia with high-level arrangements. The invitation was sent by the Hon’ble President of India, inviting her to a dinner at 6 PM on Independence Day (15 August) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
To ensure the safe and timely delivery of this prestigious invitation, the postal department assigned special officers from New Delhi to Chakulia. Upon receiving the invitation, Jamuna Tudu and her husband expressed immense joy and said they felt honored by this recognition.
Jamuna Tudu, popularly known as the “Lady Tarzan,” once worked as a daily wage laborer while her husband was a mason. Despite their modest backgrounds, Jamuna Tudu devoted her time after work to protecting forests. She would go into the jungle to convince and educate people against cutting down trees, building awareness about environmental conservation.
Because of her efforts, she faced multiple life-threatening attacks by timber mafias, but she remained undeterred. Her unyielding dedication and courage eventually led to her being conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards.
Upon receiving the President’s invitation, Jamuna Tudu became emotional and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the officers and staff of the Indian Postal Department who ensured the letter reached her safely. She extended her best wishes to the department for their sincere service.
