Jamshedpur. In a bid to make one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs — Sakchi Market — free from traffic congestion and encroachment, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi and Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey carried out a joint inspection on Friday.
They were accompanied by City SP Kumar Shivashish, DTO Dhananjay, JNAC DMC Krishna Kumar, Dhalbhum SDO Chandrajeet Singh, Executive Magistrate Sudeept Raj, along with several other senior officers.
During the inspection, the team reviewed traffic movement, roadside encroachments, disorganized shop layouts, and other civic issues that have been troubling residents and shoppers.
Speaking to the media, DC Karn Satyarthi said that the administration had been receiving repeated complaints from citizens about traffic jams and chaotic conditions in Sakchi. He added that many of these issues stemmed from vendors and shopkeepers occupying public roads. “Strict instructions have been given to prepare a long-term and sustainable strategy for removing encroachments. Shopkeepers will only be allowed to conduct business within designated areas,” he said.
The DC emphasized that markets exist for the convenience of the public. Encroachments and disorder not only disrupt smooth traffic flow but also cause hardships for people coming to shop. “Our priority is to ensure that Sakchi remains clean, organized, and free from traffic jams,” he said firmly.
SSP Piyush Pandey also stressed that roadside encroachment is the biggest challenge in the area. He informed that meetings will soon be held with shopkeepers, street vendors, and cart operators to resolve the matter through mutual understanding and cooperation.
Highlighting the need for systematic parking arrangements, the SSP said that a proper plan will be introduced to ease congestion, especially during festive seasons when footfall in Sakchi Market increases significantly. “A special traffic plan will be enforced to ensure smooth vehicular movement and safe shopping for the public,” he assured.
The inspection made it clear that the administration is now serious about tackling the long-pending issues in Sakchi. In the coming days, large-scale anti-encroachment drives are expected, which could transform the market into a more organized and commuter-friendly zone.
Local residents and traders expressed hope that the administration’s initiative will not only bring relief from traffic chaos but also improve the overall shopping experience in Sakchi, one of Jamshedpur’s most popular commercial destinations.
