Jamshedpur: Panic spread near Domuhani in Sonari when a tanker loaded with LPG gas suddenly developed a major gas leak. The driver noticed the leakage in time and immediately alerted the authorities, helping prevent a potentially serious accident.
Driver’s Alertness and Prompt Action
According to Sonari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Madhusudan Dey, an LPG tanker belonging to SP Company was parked near Domuhani Ghat, close to Domuhani Chowk on Marine Drive, Sonari, when a sudden and heavy gas leak was reported.
As soon as the leakage was noticed, the patrolling police team reached the spot and took immediate precautionary measures. The tanker was moved to the roadside and traffic movement on both sides of the road was stopped to prevent any possible mishap.
Company Team Helped Control the Leakage
The tanker driver and company personnel reached the spot and took emergency measures to reduce the leakage. A temporary arrangement was made to control the gas outlet, following which the intensity of the leak was significantly reduced.
Police said the situation is currently under control and the leakage has been brought down considerably. The area was kept under precautionary watch to ensure that no spark or other ignition source could create a dangerous situation.
Timely Police Action Prevented a Major Mishap
LPG is highly inflammable, and any spark during a gas leak can potentially result in a serious fire or explosion. With vehicles moving along Marine Drive and people present in the surrounding area, the situation could have become dangerous.
However, the driver’s alertness, followed by the prompt response of the Sonari police team, helped prevent a possible major accident. Traffic restrictions were imposed immediately as a precautionary measure until the situation came under control.
Exact Cause of Gas Leak Yet to Be Determined
The Sonari Police Station Officer-in-Charge said that the exact reason behind the LPG leakage has not yet been confirmed. It is also not clear whether the leakage occurred due to a technical fault or another reason.
The company’s technical experts will inspect the tanker and determine the actual cause of the leakage. Police said further details will be clear after the technical inspection.
