
Jamshedpur: Due to continuous torrential rainfall in the East Coast Regions, Indian Railways has gone into a high-alert mode. To ensure that bad weather and waterlogging do not directly impact train speeds and passenger safety, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has personally taken charge. On Monday, August 17, 2026, the Railway Minister conducted a high-level and detailed review of the rain situation and railway operations. During this, he issued strict and crucial instructions to the General Manager (GM) of South Eastern Railway (SER) regarding smooth train operations.


Instructions for Strict Monitoring of Waterlogged Areas
According to an official press release issued by the South Eastern Railway on August 17, 2026, the Railway Minister has given special instructions to the GM and senior officials:
Strict Vigilance: Officials have been strictly instructed to maintain close monitoring on all those sections of the railway track that are highly waterlogging-prone during the rains.
Safe Operations: The Railway Minister has made it clear that under all circumstances, it must be ensured that despite heavy rainfall, train movements continue in a completely safe and smooth manner.
Full Focus on Key Routes
To ensure passenger safety and train punctuality, the Railways is putting additional focus on certain sensitive and important routes.
Additional Resources: The Railway Minister emphasized that immediate additional resources and forces should be deployed by the Railways to ensure uninterrupted and safe train operations in these key sections.
Key Sensitive Sections:
Rupsa – Baripada – Bangriposi section.
Rourkela – Bondamunda section.
Following these instructions, the railway administration has become fully alert, and engineering and track maintenance teams have been deployed at ground zero.
