In a significant move to enhance higher education and research in India, NIT Jamshedpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Roorkee on March 20, 2026, at IIT Roorkee. The agreement marks a new chapter of collaboration between two of the country’s premier technical institutions.

Leadership Presence at Signing
The MoU was formally signed by Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur, and Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Surajit Kundu and Dr. Sai Ramudu Meka, along with other academic representatives from both institutions.
Focus on Research and Innovation
The primary objective of this agreement is to strengthen academic and research partnerships. The collaboration will facilitate joint research projects, enabling scholars from both institutions to work together on cutting-edge technological advancements.
Opportunities for Students and Faculty
A key highlight of the MoU is the introduction of joint Ph.D. supervision programs, which will provide research scholars with access to expertise and resources from both institutes. Additionally, student and faculty exchange programs will be encouraged, allowing knowledge sharing and broader academic exposure.
Internship opportunities and startup incubation initiatives will also be promoted under this partnership, helping students gain practical experience and entrepreneurial support.

Prof. Goutam Sutradhar emphasized that the MoU will not remain a mere formal agreement but will be actively implemented to deliver real benefits. He highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing shared infrastructure such as research parks, innovation centres, and incubation facilities.
He also pointed out the strong academic connection between the two institutes, noting that several faculty members at NIT Jamshedpur are alumni of IIT Roorkee, which further strengthens this collaboration.

During the visit, the NIT Jamshedpur delegation toured several key facilities at IIT Roorkee, including advanced labs and innovation hubs. They also visited the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute to explore future research and development opportunities.
