Jamshedpur: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has registered another significant achievement in the field of higher education and environmental conservation. In the first edition of the National Green University Ranking (NGUR) 2026, released by the global sustainability organization ‘Green Mentors’, the institute has achieved a prestigious ‘Gold Rating’ by scoring 90.5 points out of 100. With this spectacular performance, NIT Jamshedpur has secured the 28th position among higher educational institutions across the country, proving its strong commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Evaluation Based on 10 Key Parameters
This esteemed ranking is developed in strict alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Greening Higher Education Framework of UNESCO. The participating institutions were rigorously evaluated across 10 major parameters. These critical standards included good governance and leadership, biodiversity conservation, carbon and climate action, green infrastructure and energy efficiency, sustainable research and innovation, curriculum, water conservation, sustainable transport, waste management, circular economy, and community engagement. In its comprehensive report, NIT Jamshedpur prominently highlighted its successful initiatives like the widespread use of renewable energy, waste-to-wealth projects, plastic recycling campaigns, and overall green campus operations.
Gold Rating Certificate Handed Over to the Team
To officially mark this historic achievement, Dr. Navin Kumar Veldurthi, the Nodal Officer of the National Green University Ranking Committee-2026 and ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS), along with his dedicated team, presented the NGUR 2026 Gold Rating certificate to the Director of the institute, Prof. Gautam Sutradhar. Registrar (In-charge) Prof. Saroj Kumar Sarangi was also present on this special occasion. Several departments, including the Academic Section, Planning and Development, Research and Consultancy, Housekeeping, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), and the National Service Scheme (NSS), played a crucial and collaborative role in providing the necessary data and evidence during the intensive evaluation process.
