JAMSHEDPUR।
Tata Steel Adventure Foundation organized cleaning drive at Dimna Area on 31st Jan, covering the Dimna picnic ground. Along with TSAF staff there were volunteers from Tata Steel plant & Sport Climbing training centre
The cleaning commenced from 8.30 am and went on till 1 pm. Everyone went about cleaning the areas sincerely armed with gunny bags and gloves. More than 600 kg were filled with trash. Majority being, alcohol bottles (270kg) and disposable plates and glass used in picnics… All the trash was brought back and handed over to Jusco Dry waste collection centre for proper disposal.
This was 2nd drive organized in this financial year, in 1st drive around 500kg waste was collected.
Dimna is one of the most popular tourist spot in Jamshedpur. Every weekend thousands of people flock there to spend relaxing time with families and friends, however, the flip side is the spot is becoming dirtier day by day. Most of them leave food plates and other trash behind which is destroying the ecosystem.
There is need to reduce the use of disposable plates when people go for picnic either they should take steel/ melamine plates or use eco-friendly plates e.g. made of leaf. There is also need for setting up proper system to collect the waste – putting up dustbins, disposing the collected waste periodically, training manpower.
Drive was led by Chief, TSAF Ms Bachendri Pal.
TSAF has in the past organized cleaning exercise in Ganga, in Himalaya and in other places in and around Jamshedpur. Such efforts would be made periodically from time to time keeping in mind the PM’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) – a movement that seeks to create a Clean India. The cleanliness drives by TSAF from time to time would be a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi as cleanliness was very close to his heart.
