Jamshedpur : Tata Steel’s Sports Department organised a successful Inter-Joint Development Council (JDC) Carrom Championship from June 15th to 16th, 2023, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. The event aimed to promote sports as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. Hemant Gupta, Head of the Adventure Programme and Sports at Tata Steel, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Sanjay Kumar Singh, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union.
The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from a total of 50 teams, including 30 teams in the men’s category and 20 teams in the women’s category. More than 200 players showcased their talent in this year’s competition. The men’s category featured 29 thrilling matches, while the women’s category witnessed 19 closely contested carrom matches.
In a display of exceptional skill and sportsmanship, the team from Tata Steel Lime Plant emerged as the winners in the men’s category, showcasing their prowess and determination. The women’s category was equally fierce, with LD3 emerging victorious after a hard-fought battle in all their matches.
To ensure fair play and adherence to the rules, the championship benefited from the expertise of renowned technical officials, including Tilak Ram, Jaswant, J Behra, Shiva, and N Das who performed their roles admirably.
Tata Steel’s commitment to promoting sports and fostering a spirit of camaraderie among its workforce was evident throughout the championship. The event provided an excellent platform for employees to showcase their carrom skills and foster a healthy competitive spirit
