Our everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, washing, travelling and much more impact the environment in one way or another. With the growing concerns over our environment and climate change impacting human and animal lives, the practice of sustainable living is all the more crucial. Sustainable living means reducing one’s demand for natural resources and making the right choices to adopt greener practices to the best of their ability. This year, World Environment Day’s theme is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and &TV artists and Uttar Pradesh-natives, Yogesh Tripathi aka Daroga Happu Singh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, Ambrish Bobby aka Ramesh Prasad Mishra, Farhana Fatema aka Shanti Mishra and Anu Awasthi aka Bittu Kapoor from Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai? talk about their small efforts in adopting the practice of sustainable living.

Yogesh Tripathi, aka Daroga Happu Singh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “The mother earth is our home, and it is our primary responsibility to protect it. We need to adopt and follow environmentally conscious habits to ensure we do our bit to conserve our environment for the generations to come. Our small efforts every day will lead to bigger and impactful results. Be it saving water or energy, reuse and recycle, plant more trees, go nontoxic at home and much more. We try to conserve water as much as possible. After washing clothes, I have made this a drill at home to reuse the drained water from the washing machine in flushing the toilet, where about seven litres of water is wasted with every flush. Such small steps can lead to a big change.” Ambrish Bobby, aka Ramesh Prasad Mishra from Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai? shares, “We all know and understand the importance of conserving our environment. Small efforts towards our daily habits can make a big difference. I follow the 3Rs- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle as much as possible. From plastic to paper, we try to reuse it and, most importantly, reduce its usage. Several substitutes are available that are not only pocket-friendly but are also eco-friendly. We have separate jute bags that we carry every time we go out shopping, from clothes to vegetables. On this World Environment Day, I would request every one to take one step towards environment protection and make this world a better place to live in.” Farhana Fatema, aka Shanti Mishra from Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai? shares, “While we continue living our life, it is our social and moral responsibility to protect the environment. We take a lot from it, but it is also important to give back. I strongly believe in the concept of ‘One step for a man is a giant leap for humankind’. A small effort can make a huge difference. During the day, we make the most of natural daylight over artificial electric bulbs. It helps us save more energy and brings us closer to the environment and enjoy its natural beauty. Apart from that, we have switched to more natural and less toxic products over toxic conventional cleaners and detergents. Such small little steps can lead us to a beautiful, greener and cleaner tomorrow.” Annu Awasthi, aka Bittu Kapoor from Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai? shares, “Being environmentally conscious is extremely important. And there are several ways to incorporate these good habits into our day to day lives. Reusing products instead of buying them new—find innovative ways to use things you already own, helps save energy, curb global warming emissions, and preserve the Earth’s precious resources. One environmentally conscious effort a day can keep a lot of environmental damages at bay! I have installed a big earthen pot to keep the water cool. And it works as effectively as any water cooler while saving on electricity. Such small and easy steps can help in getting closer to the goal of better tomorrow. On this World Environment Day, let us all pledge to make small efforts now and then to let our mother earth smile again.”
