175 budding archers appear in the finals

Tournament draws over 3,000 archers from Jharkhand and Odisha

Jamshedpur। Tata Steel organised a Rural Archery Tournament at JRD Archery Ground, Jamshedpur on March 25, 2018. Mr Sourav Roy, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Ms Ankita Bhakat, who bagged Gold medal in mixed team World Archery Championship in Rosario, Argentina (2017); Archer Prachi Singh and Ms Purnima Mahto, Coach, Tata Archery Academy, L Murthy, Former Secretary, Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) and Amit Tirkey, Head, Empowerment, Tata Steel Rural Development Society was also present on the occasion.

A total of 175 budding archers, both boys and girls, from the hinterland of Jharkhand and Odisha participated in Under-14 and Under-16 categories of the tourney’s finals. The sixth edition of the tournament-cum-selection trials, which started on January 4, 2018 drew over 3,000 budding archers, mostly hailing from Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities.

A total of 50 archers, including the winners and runners-up, who performed impressively in the finals will undergo training at archery camp to be organized by Tata Archery Academy , which has produced archers of both National and International repute.
