
Jamshedpur:
Tata Steel’s swimming team showcased a stellar performance to emerge as overall champions at the SPSB (Steel Plant Sports Board) Swimming Championship 2025, clinching the top spot with a total of 34 points.
Hosted at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, the championship was organized by Tata Steel and featured intense competition among five prominent steel units. Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) secured the runner-up position with 16 points, while IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Burnpur, followed closely with 15 points, finishing as second runner-up.
Other participating teams included Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and Durgapur Steel Plant, making the event a showcase of swimming talent from across India’s steel manufacturing sector.
The closing ceremony was graced by Hari Babu, Chief, LD1, Tata Steel, as the Chief Guest. Also present was Sanjay Kumar Singh, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union, who attended as the Guest of Honour. Their presence added prestige and encouragement to the participating athletes.
Adding credibility to the event, former international swimmer Ram Balak Singh served as the official observer, ensuring fair play and technical excellence throughout the competition.
The event was seamlessly coordinated by Tata Steel Sports Department officials Firoz Khan and Sanjay Kumar Mishra, whose efforts ensured smooth conduct and high standards.
The championship not only fostered a spirit of healthy competition but also underscored the steel industry’s commitment to promoting sports and fitness. Tata Steel, with its long legacy of supporting athletic excellence, once again led by example through this successful sporting initiative.
