Jamshedpur, Tata Steel has intensified its community services for COVID -19 in and around its operational areas.
In a recent development, Tata Main Hospital (TMH) Jamshedpur has been certified by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for RT–PCR diagnostic test for COVID-19. TMH is now one of the private laboratories that has been given approval for conducting COVID-19 testing. Testing kits have arrived in TMH and the hospital started COVID-19 testing since April 24, 2020. It has the capacity to test 50 samples per day.
Since testing is critical in assessing the spread of COVID-19, the inclusion of TMH Jamshedpur in the list of private laboratories for testing COVID-19 will help contain the spread of the virus in the region.
In yet another development, responding to the request of Hemant Soren, Hon`ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Tata Sons has send some medical equipment and consumables to the State of Jharkhand. This includes 50,000 3-ply masks, 25,000 pairs of nitrile gloves, 10,000 COVID-19 testing kits and 5 HFNC (High Flow Nasal Cannula), a non-invasive ventilation support to treat patients with respiratory difficulties. 10,000 COVID-19 kits have already been delivered to TMH Jamshedpur.
Further, Tata Steel through Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) had earlier launched a ten-point #CombatCovid19 for the communities in and around its operational areas during this period of COVID-19 lockdown. Some of the programmes of TSF has resulted in generating income opportunities for people. One such programmes is the Cash for Work programme that has resulted in generation of Rs 23 lakh income through activities like wall paintings, kitchen gardens, and making of bags from old newspapers. 2,300 households have been supported under this programme.
Rs 1.84 lakh income has been earned by 200 households involved in mask making. Total 90, 000 masks have been distributed so far. 7500 kg of fresh farm produce has been sold through 890 orders on the Zomato and Swiggy platforms, raising Rs. 2 lakh to be redistributed as income among 93 farmers. In an effort to feed the poor and vulnerable sections of the society, as on date, 14.2 lakh meals have been distributed in the operational areas of Tata Steel in Jharkhand and Odisha. 20,000 ration and hygiene packets have also been distributed in the Kolhan region of Jharkhand.
