Jamshedpur/Ranchi: In its continued efforts towards building a more inclusive and supportive workplace, Tata Power Jojobera Thermal Power Plant in Jharkhand has taken a meaningful step by launching an on-site crèche facility to support new mothers transitioning back to their professional roles. The initiative reflects Tata Power’s belief that parenthood should never be a barrier to professional growth. Open to children aged 6 months to 6 years, the facility embodies the company’s focus on empowering women to return to work with confidence, and to building an environment where every employee, regardless of any life stage feels valued and supported for lasting success.

The facility itself has been designed to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging space for children. It features cushioned floors, age-appropriate toys, sleeping cots, and a dedicated play zone. Two trained caregivers manage the day-to-day care and activities, ensuring that the children receive professional attention in a friendly environment. A dedicated workstation for mothers near the crèche allows them to stay close to their children during work hours, while transport support is available within the plant for smooth drop-off and pick-up. The crèche operates from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Saturday, offering parents a reliable and accessible childcare solution.
While a basic crèche setup had previously existed at the plant, with a rising number of women going on maternity leave in 2024, there was an urgent need for a more supportive and well-equipped childcare facility. Responding with foresight and care, the Jojobera leadership took proactive steps to transform the existing setup into a modern, comprehensive crèche and ensured that the facility was ready and operational before the new mothers returned to work.
Situated outside the plant’s operational area, the crèche ensures that children are not exposed to any plant-related hazards. Its proximity to the main gate ensures that in the event of an emergency evacuation, it would be one of the first points to be cleared. The site is under 24/7 CCTV surveillance and located near the Security Supervisor’s office for added vigilance. The plant’s trained security team is well-versed in evacuation protocols and prepared to handle any such scenarios with efficiency.
This initiative is part of Tata Power’s broader vision to support women employees at every stage of their career journey. By creating an environment that welcomes new mothers back to the workplace with thoughtful infrastructure and care, Tata Power is reaffirming its commitment to gender diversity, employee well-being, and inclusive growth. While it plays a vital role in easing the transition for returning mothers, it is equally open to all parents, including male employees who serve as active caregivers. Through this initiative, Tata Power Jojobera is not only making a meaningful difference in the lives of working mothers but also setting the tone for a more empathetic, future-ready workforce.
