Jamshedpur,: Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP), Jamshedpur, is delighted to announce the birth of three tiger cubs—two females and one male—born in early morning on 23 September 2026 to Sunaina, a tigress residing at the zoo. The sire, Rudra, was brought to TSZP from the Gorewada Rescue Centre, Nagpur.
The birth of the three cubs is a joyful occasion for the zoo and its visitors. As per the established veterinary protocol, the announcement is being made after the cubs have completed the initial period of close monitoring and care.
Being a first-time mother, Sunaina inadvertently injured one of the female cubs. The zoo’s veterinary team intervened promptly and performed suturing of the skin wounds. The cub has since shown encouraging progress and currently weighs approximately 1.8 kg. She is presently considered to be out of immediate danger but continues to remain under close veterinary observation.
The other two cubs are doing well. The male cub weighs approximately 2.9 kg, while the second female cub weighs around 2.53 kg.
All three cubs are under continuous veterinary supervision, with their activities also being monitored through the zoo’s CCTV surveillance system. The zoo is taking all necessary precautions to safeguard their health and well-being.
Public Naming Competition: Citizens Invited to Suggest Names
Continuing its efforts to encourage public participation and strengthen its bond with the citizens of Jamshedpur, TSZP is inviting suggestions for the names of all three tiger cubs.
Members of the public are encouraged to submit three suggested names—one for each cub—via WhatsApp or by message to +91 9438291637.
A panel constituted by the zoo will select the three best entries. The selected winners will be felicitated with complimentary zoo entry passes and a memento.
Last date for submission: 19 October 2026.
Tata Steel Zoological Park looks forward to enthusiastic participation from the citizens of Jamshedpur in naming the newest members of its tiger family. The initiative also provides an opportunity for the public to connect with wildlife conservation and share in this special moment at the zoo.
