Jamshedpur: XLRI – Xavier School of Management celebrated India’s Independence Day through a series of sporting and cultural initiatives that brought together students, faculty, staff, families and campus residents in the spirit of unity, participation and fellowship.
The celebrations featured the XLRI Freedom Cup 3.0, the inaugural XLRI Independence Day Rapid Chess Tournament 2026, and a vibrant cultural programme featuring performances by children, teenagers, faculty members and their spouses.
The third edition of the XLRI Freedom Cup 3.0, held from August 8 to 16, featured seven teams. XL Spartans emerged champions after defeating XLerators by one wicket in a closely contested final. Prayansh J of XL Spartans was adjudged the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 61 off 36 balls. Individual honours were awarded to Lalit Sejwal (Best Batsman), Ravi Kapali (Best Bowler) and Abhishek Verma (Best Fielder).
Adding an intellectual dimension to the celebrations, the XLRI Independence Day Rapid Chess Tournament 2026 brought together 32 participants across Open and Wards categories. Hisham Ashraf Makhdomi, Aditya Kumar and Shlok Sourav Mishra secured the top three positions in the Open Category, while Arinj Purty, Ishanvi Bhaskar and Mohneesh Varshney jointly secured the top position in the Wards Category.
The cultural programme added to the celebratory spirit with solo and group dance and song performances, classical dance presentations and lively performances by infants, young children and teenagers. Faculty members and their spouses also participated in the celebrations through musical and dance performances.
The occasion also included a farewell by XLCC to Prof. Venugopal, marking a warm moment of appreciation and fellowship within the XLRI community.
Together, the celebrations reflected the spirit of Independence through sport, culture, participation and togetherness, bringing the XLRI community together to celebrate the nation and the bonds that make the campus a vibrant commun
