Jamshedpur: The Kudmi community is once again preparing to launch an agitation to demand their constitutional rights and recognition. In a divisional meeting held at Nirmal Guest House, Bistupur, on Friday, the “Vrihad Jharkhand Kudmi Samanvay Samiti” was formed to coordinate statewide movements. Representatives from various districts of the Kolhan division attended the meeting in large numbers.
After the meeting, the committee convenors — Harmohan Mahato, Sheetal Ohdar, and Shailendra Mahato (National President of Kudmi Sena) — announced the roadmap for the upcoming agitation. They said that protest rallies would be organized in different divisions of Jharkhand on scheduled dates, starting with the “Kudmi Adhikar Rally” in Hazaribagh on November 2. A similar rally will be held in Jamshedpur near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where thousands of supporters from the Kolhan region are expected to participate.

Sheetal Ohdar stated that the major demands of the community include the inclusion of the Kudmi tribe in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, recognition of the Kudmali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and an end to the continued disrespect towards Kudmi martyrs and heroes. He added that if the government continues to ignore these legitimate demands even after the rallies, the community may consider taking more stringent steps such as an economic blockade.
Committee convenor Harmohan Mahato clarified that the Kudmi movement is not against any other community, but rather a struggle to protect their own identity, dignity, and existence. Referring to recent protests against Kudmi recognition, he said, “These are sponsored attempts to create division and defame our community. The Kudmis are not a community that fears crowds — we are a community that fights for justice. Any attempt to suppress our voice will be met with a response as strong as a rock.”
The meeting was attended by several prominent members including Harishankar Mahato, Sapan Mahato, Narayan Mahato, Pranav Mahato, Santosh Mahato, Vishal Chandra Mahato, Sumit Mahato, Pinky Mahato, Mohita Mahato, Anita Mahato, Ranjita Mahato, Prabir Mahato, and Nepal Mahato, among others.
