Jamshedpur
Tension prevails in Jamshedpur following the recent violent stabbing incident outside the Double Down (DD) Bar in Bistupur. Anticipating potential unrest, protests, and a breakdown of law and order, the district administration has taken a major preventive step. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dhalbhum, Arnav Mishra, has officially imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)—formerly known as Section 144 of the CrPC—across several sensitive police station areas in the city.

Prohibitory Orders in Key Police Station Areas
The administration received concrete intelligence indicating that various organizations were planning sit-ins, road blockades, public meetings, and protest rallies in response to the recent bar dispute and subsequent murder case. To prevent any disruption of public peace and to strictly maintain law and order, Section 163 has been enforced in the Sakchi, Bistupur, Sonari, Kadma, MGM, and Mango police station limits. This prohibitory order is effective immediately from July 1, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice.

Strict Restrictions Imposed on Public Gatherings
According to the official directive issued by the SDM court, strict restrictions have been put in place to maintain harmony in the affected areas.
Any form of protest, sit-in (dharna), gherao, public meeting, or burning of effigies is completely banned.
Carrying weapons, firearms, lathis (sticks), bows and arrows, spears, or any sharp objects in public places is strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, the unauthorized use of loudspeakers or sound amplifiers is banned.
The assembly of five or more people with the intent to cause a disturbance, riot, or block roads is declared illegal.
Exemptions and Appeal for Peace
The administration has clarified that these strict restrictions do not apply to essential services. Duty magistrates, police officers, medical personnel, and media representatives on active duty are entirely exempt from this order. Given the urgency and sensitivity of the situation, the SDM has passed this order ex-parte. The district administration has urgently appealed to the citizens of Jamshedpur to ignore unverified rumors, maintain peace, and cooperate fully with the authorities during this sensitive period.
