Jamshedpur.
A major daylight theft created panic among traders at Bata Chowk, a busy area under Jugsalai police station. A thief broke open the cash box of a jewellery and gemstone store, James House, and fled with precious stones worth nearly ₹10–12 lakh, including Pukhraj (yellow sapphire), Neelam (blue sapphire), and Panna (emerald).
At the time of the incident, shop owner Karan Singh had stepped out briefly to use the washroom, while his staff had gone to a nearby shop to pick up supplies. Taking advantage of the moment, a young man entered the shop, broke the lock of the cash box, stole the valuables, and escaped.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, clearly showing the accused. According to local traders, this is the third consecutive theft in the area in recent times, raising serious concerns about market security.
Upon receiving information, Jugsalai Police reached the spot.
Police officer Anil Kumar assured shopkeepers that the investigation has begun and that CCTV footage has been collected as primary evidence. He added that efforts to identify and arrest the accused have been intensified.
Police have urged traders to remain vigilant, enhance security arrangements in their shops, and immediately report any suspicious activity.
The incident has not only caused significant financial loss to the shop but has also exposed weaknesses in the security system of the market. Traders have demanded increased patrolling and swift action against the culprits.
