Sukinda (Jajpur)/Jamshedpur, December 6, 2024: Tata Steel Foundation, in partnership with the Jaipur Foot Organisation, successfully concluded a three-day Artificial Limbs Distribution Camp today at the Sabal Centre, Sukinda within the ambit of its initiative Sabal- aimed at enabling inclusivity and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The event, aligned with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, provided customized artificial limbs to 38 individuals from Sukinda, Bamnipal, Kalinganagar, and Meramandali regions of Odisha.

The distribution ceremony, held today, was attended by Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge, Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD), Tata Steel, as the chief guest. Speaking at the event, he said, “This initiative is a small step from our end towards a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities are empowered to lead independent and fulfilling lives. We can always contribute to bring smiles to the faces beaming with confidence and dignity and make this world more beautiful.”

This initiative is a small step from our end towards shaping a more inclusive society where individuals with disabilities are empowered to lead independent and fulfilling lives. It’s not just about providing mobility but also about restoring confidence and dignity, enabling them to participate in all activities happening within their communities.”

The camp commenced with the Jaipur Foot team conducting precise measurements and fittings to ensure each prosthetic met the specific needs of its recipient. The Jaipur Foot, developed in India in 1968, is a low-cost, rubber-based prosthetic leg renowned for its flexibility and affordability, enabling users to perform various daily activities with ease.

Today’s distribution ceremony at the Sabal Centre marked a significant milestone in enhancing mobility and independence for the PwDs from rural and tribal communities. The initiative further highlights Tata Steel Foundation’s dedication to creating an inclusive society where every individual has the equitable opportunity to thrive and shape their own livelihood.

The collaboration between Tata Steel Foundation and the Jaipur Foot Organisation exemplifies a commitment to uplifting underserved communities and propagating meaningful societal change.
