Jamshedpur: Indian Railways is continuously taking new steps to reduce train congestion at Tatanagar Railway Station and make operations more punctual. As part of this initiative, a major operational change is being prepared under the Chakradharpur Railway Division. Soon, the engine reversal process for the Durg-Ara-Durg South Bihar Express will be shifted from Tatanagar Junction to Adityapur Railway Station. The primary objective of this move is to save the crucial time spent on changing engines at Tatanagar and to ensure the train runs exactly on its scheduled time.

Successful Trial Run with Rear Engine Attachment

According to railway officials, a trial run has already been conducted at Adityapur station to streamline the route and the engine change process of the South Bihar Express. Giving information about this development, Senior DCM Aditya Chaudhary stated that as a trial, when the train was returning from Ara today, an engine was attached to the rear of the train right at Adityapur. Because of this strategic move, the train did not have to undergo the lengthy engine reversal process at Tatanagar station. The railway administration is currently observing the exact time savings achieved through this method and evaluating how smooth operations will become once it is permanently implemented.

Reducing Congestion at Tatanagar Junction

Tatanagar Junction is a highly busy railway hub handling the daily movement of numerous important trains. Whenever a long-distance train like the South Bihar Express undergoes an engine change, the platform remains occupied for an extended period. By initiating the engine reversal facility at Adityapur, the platforms at Tatanagar will be cleared much faster. Consequently, other incoming trains will not have to wait at the outer signals. This new system is expected to provide major relief to passengers by significantly minimizing train delays.

Demand for Stoppage at Adityapur Post-COVID

While the railways are experimenting with engine changes at Adityapur to improve overall operations, a long-standing demand of the local residents remains unheard. It is worth noting that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Durg-Ara-Durg South Bihar Express had a regular commercial halt at Adityapur Railway Station. However, even after train services fully resumed post-pandemic, this stoppage has not been restored.

Growing Public Expectations

Adityapur is a massive industrial and residential hub. Currently, local residents have to travel all the way to Tatanagar station to board the South Bihar Express, causing them significant inconvenience and extra travel expenses. Locals and various social organizations have been consistently demanding the railway administration to reinstate the train’s stoppage at Adityapur. Now that the engine trial has begun at the station, citizens are highly hopeful that the commercial halt will also be restored in the near future.
