33rd National Road Safety Month celebrations concludes at Tata Steel

Jamshedpur, March 1, 2022: Tata Steel organised the closing ceremony of the 33rd National Road Safety Month 2022 (January 18-February 17, 2022) in virtual mode today.

National Road Safety Month (NRSM) is observed under the guidance of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India every year. The National Safety Council supplements the Government’s initiative by promoting Road Safety Campaigns across the country.

The virtual closing ceremony was graced by Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Safety Health & Sustainability, Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, Supply Chain and Chairman Apex Road and Rail Safety Sub-committee and Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union. Senior Management Team, Chiefs, Heads, Employees, Vendor Partners of Tata Steel Jamshedpur, Tata Steel Kalinganagar, Tata Steel Meramandali, Raw Materials Division, DIC/AIC members, Union Committee Members, office bearers of Tata Workers Union also joined the online event.

During the month-long celebrations, various activities were conducted to make workforce aware of the pressing Road Safety concerns and reinforce safety behaviours to minimize road related incidents and injuries. Exemplary Safety performances among employees, contractor employees and vendor partners were recognized and awarded accordingly.

Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability thanked the Tata Workers Union for its continuous support in all safety initiatives of the company and explained how the Safety Performance has improved over 15 years in our Safety Excellence journey. He further added that we are in the journey of Safety Excellence and the final objective is to achieve Zero Harm. He pointed out the need for focussing on cultural and behavioural aspects to improve our safety performance.

Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, Supply Chain said that we all have to imbibe the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha”. He added safe behaviour practiced by employees is like a gift to colleagues, family and friends. He pointed out the key challenges and asked everyone to improve driving behaviour.

Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union congratulated all the participants and winners of various competitions organized during the month. He appreciated the Safety department’s efforts in creating road safety awareness among stakeholders. He asked everyone to follow the road safety guideline/rules inside as well as the outside TSL premises.

Earlier, Chief Safety, Neeraj Kumar Sinha welcomed the participants and set the context for the proceedings. He explained in detail the various activities carried out during the campaign to improve awareness among employees and vendor partner across TSL locations. He also, highlighted the activities performed beyond TSL premises to improve the road safety awareness among communities.

During the event, two short safety videos on specific road safety themes were screened for spreading road safety awareness among stake holders.

During the event exemplary safety performances by employees, vendor partners, Departments from Tata steel’s operating units were recognized and winners were awarded under various categories like poster competition for employees and vendor partner employees, short video making competition- for employees and contractors, Role Model heavy vehicle drivers and loco operators, Good Samaritans on road, Online Intranet Quiz winners, Significant contribution in Road Infrastructural Improvements, Best Transporter, Best Departments- in Road Safety Initiatives etc.

The virtual event drew enthusiastic participation of more than 350 employees representing all locations of Tata Steel.
