~More than 500 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the centre in the last two months~

West Bokaro (Ramgarh), : 35 COVID-19 recovered cases from Holy Cross COVID Care Centre at West Bokaro recently expressed their interest to volunteer for Convalescent Plasma donation. These cases will be referred to RIMS, Ranchi in case of any emergency. In times where people have been bound to remain indoors and day-to-day life has taken a hit, it is the people, the doctors and the healthcare workers at West Bokaro who have come forward for the holistic societal care.

On July 24, 2020, Tata Steel along with Ramgarh District Administration came together to set-up the first COVID Care Centre at West Bokaro. The 140-bedded facility spread across 3 wings in two floors at Holy Cross School, began extending medical care to the COVID infected patients in a planned manner. A 20-member team including doctors, healthcare workers, sanitisation support staff and housekeeping staff took charge of different frontiers and began working proactively.

The COVID Care Centre is open 24×7 and has treated more than 500 patients so far. With a recovery rate of 87%, the COVID Care Centre at Holy Cross stands right up, when it comes to round the clock medical care. From a 2-year-old infant to a 80-year-old patient, the team of doctors led by Dr Sundeep Saha, Nodal Medical Officer has made sure that each life is taken care of. The centre has also facilitated more than 1450 Rapid Antigen Tests under 17 special testing drives in the region.

Sharing her experience, Ms Shobha, a mother of a 2-year-old infant said, “It was stressful when we got to know that our entire family was infected with COVID-19. I couldn’t sleep when my daughter tested COVID positive. But it was the family of doctors at Holy Cross COVID Care Centre that made us feel at home. I appreciate the hygiene and the nutritious food provided during the day. It is because of them that we returned home safe and healthy.

With constant counselling and emotional support, COVID-19 patients have not only been treated with care and diligence but have also been introduced to healthier lifestyle habits. From early morning walk to rejuvenating yoga to fun exercises, the centre has been on its toes to serve the community better. The centre has earmarked areas for women, children and families to make sure everyone gets their personal space during their treatment. The entire area is sanitised twice a day followed by regular housekeeping to ensure a hygienic environment.

58-year-old Mr Mahaveer Singh Shekhawat, a Hawaldar at Central Industrial Security Force Unit of Patratu Thermal Power Station who got infected on July 25 while performing his duties as a COVID Warrior says, “It was really inspiring how each healthcare worker at the centre was working day in and day out to take care of everyone. Each member of the community was playing the role perfectly.  I would like to thank team of doctors and healthcare workers who selflessly took care of me.

It is the people connect at West Bokaro that is strengthening the social fabric to bring about a positive change amidst COVID-19.
