West Bokaro, June 21, 2019: With an objective to create awareness regarding yoga and its benefits among the employees and people from the community, Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division celebrated the ‘International Day of Yoga’ today with a yoga session at Officers’ Club, West Bokaro.
Around 250 participants including employees of Tata Steel along with students and people from the community participated in the yoga session.
Mr Manish Mishra, General Manager, Tata Steel (West Bokaro) graced the occasion as chief guest along with Mr Kailash Gope, Secretary, Rastriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS), Mr Praveen Sinha, Chief, HRM, Tata Steel (West Bokaro) and Mr P K Mishra, Vice President, RCMS.
Mr Tileshwar, a renowned yoga expert of the region demonstrated around 16 asans. Some of the asans demonstrated were Mudra Gyan, Kapal Bhati, Kati Saundrya, Anulom Vilom, Butterfly, Ujjai Pranayam, Left Bhastrika, Bharamri Pranayam, etc. Apart from basics of yoga, the participants were also informed regarding various benefits of yoga.
In his address, Mr Manish Mishra said, “Yoga is not a mere physical activity for good health and wellbeing but a tool to spread love and harmony among people. It is the epitome of India’s ancient and deep-rooted and diverse civilization. It is an invaluable gift from India to mankind that everyone should cherish and carry forward.”
The event was organized to create awareness about yoga in all aspects, both for the uninitiated and the practitioners. The importance of yoga, as a part of a healthy all-round regimen was highlighted during the session.
The event was organized by Human Resource Management Department of Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division in association with the Sports Department and Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS). Among others present on the occasion were senior officials of Tata Steel, Union representatives and officials of TSRDS.
It may be noted here that June 21 is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga all over the world. Recognizing that yoga provides a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, the United Nations General Assembly in its 69th Plenary Session held on December 11, 2014, decided to proclaim June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
