Jamshedpur: The prestigious SHE Excellence Awards celebrated its sixth edition at Steelennium Hall, Jamshedpur works.
Established with a commitment to fostering a fair and just workplace, emphasizing responsibility and accountability, Tata Steel introduced the SHE Excellence Awards in FY20.
The awards were conceived to provide a platform for acknowledging and motivating employees who exemplify dedication and leadership in the realms of Safety, Health, and Environment. This initiative underscores Tata Steel’s dedication to recognizing and nurturing the pivotal role employees play as leaders in upholding these essential values.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was TV Narendran, CEO & MD Tata Steel. The programme also featured a virtual keynote session by Akash Latchman, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Tata Steel Nederland offering global insights into strengthening safety culture through leadership behaviour, risk anticipation, and people-centric systems.
A noteworthy stride in inclusivity, SHE Excellence Awards 2025 now includes “Wellness Leader Awards” to motivate continuous improvements in Health performance by various departments.
The event commenced with a safety contact on “zero harm” followed by opening remarks from Rajiv Mangal, Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability, who emphasized the role of consistent execution, personal accountability, and leadership commitment in eliminating safety and environmental risks. He highlighted the organisation’s continued focus on embedding SHE into everyday decision‑making across employees and contractor workforce.
The Chief Guest, T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, emphasized the organisation’s commitment to achieving zero fatality and highlighted the need to meet stringent environmental norms across all operations as well as the holistic wellbeing. He emphasized that safety and environment must move beyond compliance to become demonstrated behaviours, deeply embedded in everyone actions and organisational culture.
Addressing the gathering, Shailesh Kumar Singh, Deputy President, Tata Workers’ Union, highlighted the steady evolution of the awards and emphasized the importance of inclusivity by recognising frontline workers and vendor partners as critical enablers of safety excellence. He spoke about the crucial role of the trade union in the organisation’s journey towards safety excellence.
The SHE Excellence Awards 2025 witnessed participation from senior leaders (IL1s), MDs of Associated Companies, Chiefs, union representatives, award winners, finalists, safety professionals and vendor partners, reinforcing Tata Steel’s collective journey towards a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.
The event was successfully organised under the leadership and guidance of Rajiv Mangal, Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability, and Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety.
