From Dilapidated Building to Modern Facility
The institute has been developed by renovating an old and abandoned railway school building. Equipped with modern technologies and resources, the center now stands as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and progress.
Equipped with Advanced Facilities
The institute offers a wide range of modern training facilities, including smart classrooms, digital learning systems, and a functional broad gauge track model with points and crossings. A working railway coach model has also been installed to provide practical training.
Separate model rooms have been created for engineering, electrical, signal & telecommunication, and mechanical departments to ensure more effective and hands-on learning.

Computer Lab and AI Training
A 100-seat computer training center has been set up to enhance technical learning. The facility also includes Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for transparent and efficient evaluation. Employees will additionally receive training in emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Key MoU with XLRI
The railway has signed a major agreement with XLRI. Under this collaboration, railway employees will be trained in modern subjects such as management, AI, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
This is the first initiative of its kind in South Eastern Railway, aimed at providing world-class professional training to employees.
Expansion Across Divisions
Speaking to the media, GM Anil Kumar Mishra stated that Indian Railways is focusing on making employees multi-skilled. Similar training institutes will be developed across all four divisions—Kharagpur, Ranchi, Adra, and Chakradharpur.
Tatanagar Station Redevelopment
Meanwhile, redevelopment work at Tatanagar Junction is progressing steadily. The project is expected to take around 2.5 years. Work related to removal of encroachments and shifting of utilities has already begun.
Expansion of Railway Lines
To strengthen infrastructure, several railway line expansion projects have been approved. These include the fourth line between Kharagpur–Howrah and Kharagpur–Jharsuguda, as well as third and fourth lines between Gamharia and Chandil. Flyovers are also being constructed at railway crossings.
The third line between Adityapur and Kharagpur is in its final stage, and the Adityapur–Tata–Salgajhari section is expected to be operational by May.
Train Delays: Key Reason
Railway officials acknowledged that train delays remain a major concern. The primary reason is capacity constraints, as both freight and passenger trains operate on the same tracks. However, with new lines under development, the situation is expected to improve.
Action Against Illegal Encroachments
Railways have intensified action against illegal encroachments on railway land. As per new Railway Board rules, shops are no longer being leased out. Shops without lease renewal or those occupied by unauthorized persons are being treated as illegal.
Officials clarified that rehabilitation of affected shopkeepers is the responsibility of the state government, not the Railways.
Conclusion
These initiatives are expected to enhance employee skills, strengthen railway infrastructure, and improve overall train operations. In the long run, passengers and local residents are likely to benefit significantly.
