A spine-chilling incident has rocked the Seraikela-Kharsawan district after a son allegedly murdered his own father in an extremely brutal manner in Gamharia police station limits. The crime took place on Tuesday at a ground-floor flat in Tayo Colony, sending shockwaves through the locality.

Online Gaming Addiction at the Core
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused, Mansa Das, was addicted to online mobile games, particularly the gambling-style game “Aviator.” Police believe prolonged gaming addiction severely affected his mental health, leading to extreme aggression and loss of judgment.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Rama Nath Das, an employee of TGS (Tisco Growth Shop), who had recently taken ESS (Early Separation Scheme). He lived alone with his son following the death of his wife. The accused’s wife was also living separately due to family disputes.

Brutal Attack with Sharp Weapon
According to police sources, the accused attacked his father with a sharp-edged weapon (dao/cleaver) kept inside the house. The assault involved repeated blows to the head and other parts of the body. The crime scene was described as extremely disturbing, indicating the intensity of the violence.
Accused Did Not Flee
After committing the crime, the accused reportedly did not attempt to escape. Instead, he remained seated near the mutilated body of his father. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene, where the accused surrendered without resistance.
Police Action and Investigation
On receiving the alert, SDPO Sameer Kumar Sawaiya arrived at the spot with police personnel and initiated a detailed investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The accused is currently in custody and being interrogated.
History of Mental Health Issues
Police officials revealed that Mansa Das had a history of mental instability. About three years ago, he had reportedly attempted suicide by jumping from a rooftop. He was also known to isolate himself and spend excessive time playing mobile games.
Ongoing Probe
While gaming addiction appears to be a major factor, police are investigating all possible angles to determine if any other motives were involved. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about the impact of online gaming addiction and untreated mental health issues.
